Decision models: Perplexity open-sources a decider

2026-10-01 AI

From the AI digest for 2026-10-01

Arav (X, ~2:30 PM ET): Perplexity open-sourced its multimodal decision model (pplx-decider-v1-27b) and shipped a Decisions API — "scores higher than Jev at a fraction of the price": $0.04/M input tokens (Jev is $0.042 — "fraction" is rounding; the real pitch is open weights), self-graded 85.71% across benchmarks. This is the category's first big-vendor open-weights entrant, following TypeSafe Jev (closed), Nokia AnyJev (training-free open layer), Liquid d1, and OpenAI's DevDay Decisions API.

What's genuinely new: openness is now the wedge between vendors in this category, and the testable runner — Jev vs AnyJev vs d1 vs OpenAI vs Perplexity — still has no independent run.
