TerraPower loses its EPC: Bechtel exits Natrium (Sep 21–22)

2026-10-02 Energy

From the Energy digest for 2026-10-02

Bechtel and TerraPower "will no longer be involved" with each other on the Natrium first-of-a-kind plant in Kemmerer, Wyo., after failing to agree on the next project phase; TerraPower says it will rebid the engineering-procurement-construction contract.

What's genuinely new: the first FOAK program of this wave to drop its lead EPC mid-stream. Neither side published the dispute's substance (schedule? scope? price?). Rebid timelines on FOAK nuclear EPC historically eat years — this is now the schedule-risk case study inside the SMR/novel-reactor cohort. Ledgered as watch.
