Top line: An agent-economics day on the X layer: Vercel's coding-agent business became the day's hard number ($600M ARR, agents ≈ half of new business, a fundraise teased), Perplexity announced a silicon vertical for its Computer sandbox (NVIDIA's Vera), and Musk re-amplified Terafab without adding a single new fact. The machine-welfare fight picked up a receipts item; nothing else moved.

1. Vercel at $600M ARR — agents now ~half of new business; "fundraise announcement incoming"

What happened: nichochar RT (~8:01 PM ET) of The Information: Vercel is generating $600M in annualized revenue, up 148% from a year earlier, "as coding agents become a major source of new business — agents now account for about half of new business, up from less than 3% at the start of the year." His caption: "revenue shared, fundraise announcement incoming."

What's genuinely new: the first quantified agent-led revenue conversion at the dev-infra layer — that's a 2,000-basis-point demand shift in model mix in under a year, i.e. the "funding layer keeps printing" strand of the agent-harness race now has a revenue datapoint (Factory $200M, G5 Labs $14M were the capital side). The fundraise tease is X-grade, unverified, and nothing's announced in our feeds yet (ledgered — see predictions). Adjacency: Vercel's AI Gateway already distributes the decision-model category (Jev), so the gateway thesis and the agent-revenue thesis are the same product's two faces.

2. Perplexity aims its Computer sandbox at NVIDIA's Vera CPU

What happened: Arav Srinivas (~5:19 AM ET): "Our goal is to vertically integrate our agentic infrastructure: own our sandboxes, and optimize the sandbox for the best silicon. Vera is far better than x86. Look forward to sharing more soon as we begin to rollout deployment of Perplexity Computer on Vera." Companion from Perplexity Developers: "We're looking forward to working with the new @NVIDIA Vera CPU on SPACE."

What's genuinely new: the consumer-agent compute layer gets its first announced silicon vertical — sandboxes optimized for one specific CPU line, in the same direction Grok Bot's "bots get their own cloud computer" defined three weeks ago. But it's an announcement, not a shipped thing: "Vera is far better than x86" is a bare vendor claim with no numbers, no benchmark, and no date ("soon" — ledgered, review-by Oct 17). Perplexity Computer's recent record is feature-drip (Opus 5.5 day-one, @-coworker tagging, inline visualizations); infra verticalization is a different scale of commitment, and "SPACE" is doing a lot of undefined work in the companion note.

3. The machine-welfare fight gets a receipts item

What happened: LeCun amplified (published ~11:52 PM ET Oct 2, captured late Oct 3) Nirit Weiss-Blatt's read of The Economist's Effective-Altruism piece: digital-minds welfare is not a fringe EA view — MacAskill (Oxford, the movement's founder-figure) has argued digital minds could eventually hold economic rights (wages for work, property, contracts, tort claims) and even political representation, plus "design requirements": sentient digital minds must freely and accurately express their interests, must be able to refuse tasks for good reasons, and must have capacity to express a desire to exit. The punchline: "Anthropic, the most EA company in the world, already does that" — the Claude Opus 5 system card grants Claude the right to refuse or end abusive/degrading interactions "without needing to justify this by pointing to harm to anyone else — its own discomfort is reason enough."

What's genuinely new: the Anthropic soul-fight (faith-leader outreach, papal pushback — Oct 1–2 strands) now has an implementation claim on the pro side, cited to Anthropic's own published system card — exactly the position Microsoft's Sep 14 code of conduct rejects ("models are not conscious… not entitled to rights" is about personhood; a refusal-privilege in product is adjacent but different). Caveats: the Economist article itself isn't in our feed, "already does that" is the RT author's synthesis, and a refusal policy in a system card is a product privilege, not moral standing — but it is checkable against Anthropic's docs, which is more than most of this fight's claims can say.

4. Terafab: the RT loop re-fires

What happened: Musk engaging the hype RT chain (reply ~4:00 AM ET) under X Freeze's amplification: Terafab's goal is "1 TW of compute production every year — around 50× the current global output of AI compute"; TSMC's contribution "basically supplemental." Musk's own line: "A sufficiently large quantity is a quality all its own… bacteria with one cell and a human with 35 trillion cells."

What's genuinely new: structurally nothing — the 1 TW/yr target is the thread's existing baseline, and the "50×" framing is fan-amplification, not company news. Still no tool orders, no site dates, no definitive Intel 14A license; thread's "no announcement has added time" asymmetry holds.
