The money layer: RobCo doubles to $1B, FF's robotics goes standalone on Nasdaq, Cognex buys RealSense, Teradyne invests in Bright Machines, SafeWorld out of stealth
From the Robots digest for 2026-10-05
What happened: five deals in one window, all private/consolidation except one: (1) RobCo (Munich, modular tabletop industrial robots) passed $1B in an employee secondary sale — $40M to employees, backing incl. Cherry Ventures; valuation doubled; its "Alfie" robot launches March 2027 (WSJ via syndication + trade). (2) Faraday Future's FF EAI Robotics moves toward a standalone Nasdaq platform (ticker FFR) — proposed transaction values the robotics business at ~$200M; September sales/shipments hit a record 265 units (Q3: 575) per the founder's weekly update. (3) Cognex to acquire RealSense — machine-vision incumbent buys Intel's depth-camera spinout, expanding into robotic depth perception/physical-AI. (4) Teradyne invests in Bright Machines — integrating Teradyne robotics/test with Bright Machines' software line, aimed at AI-infrastructure manufacturing (Robot Report). (5) SafeWorld emerges from stealth with $12.2M seed (Shine Capital + a16z Speedrun) to build robot-safety simulation for "the next billion machines" (CMU safe-AI professor).
What's genuinely new: the consolidation round is no longer automotive/surgical (medtech thread) — the buyers are now machine-vision (Cognex/RealSense), test (Teradyne) and a data-center-assembly software shop (Bright Machines), i.e., the physical-AI supply chain is consolidating along the same "robots building AI infrastructure" line as story 1. FF's FFR adds the beat's newest listed pure-play — small (~$200M) but a real independent ticker. RobCo's doubling continues the pricing race against the cooling tape.
Watch: FFR's float and whether other EV-castoff robotics units follow; Cognex×RealSense close terms; SafeWorld's customers (safety simulation is the war's validation-machinery watch).
