Falcon 9's SDA mission aborted in the terminal count; the SDA Tranche 1 Transport Layer retry is overnight

2026-10-05 Space

From the Space digest for 2026-10-05

What happened: Falcon 9 aborted "immediately after taking control of the countdown" during the Space Development Agency's Tranche 1 Transport Layer A launch from Vandenberg (NSF RT, ~4:25 AM ET Monday; "unexplained issue," last-minute). By midday, the retry was targeted for the overnight hours of Monday night into early Tuesday, Oct. 6, visible potentially as far as Arizona per USA Today's coverage.

What's genuinely new: the abort itself — a rare terminal-count hold on an operational SDA launch — and it kicks off a genuinely busy launch week in the window: this week's boards show South Korea's Nuri flying Earth-observation satellites, Chinese missions, and at least two Falcon 9 missions from the West Coast including the SDA retry. No cause was disclosed.

Watch: tonight's outcome (the Oct 4 digest's brief flagged this attempt); the failure-cause disclosure if any.
