Westinghouse: Poland first-plant procurement begins; Netherlands FEED with Hyundai E&C

From the Energy digest for 2026-10-13

What happened: Per ANS on October 13 (published ~5:12 PM ET), Westinghouse has begun the long-lead-item procurement process and signed conditional purchase orders for the first of three planned AP1000 units for Poland's first nuclear power plant. The company also announced recently that it will partner with Hyundai Engineering & Construction on the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase of a project to deploy two large-scale reactors in the Netherlands.

What's genuinely new: This is a development, not a debut, on the Poland side: the predictions file already ledger's Poland's updated national nuclear programme — first plant startup expected 2036, second 2040 — and the Oct 13 digest item carried the second plant's task-division agreement. The Westinghouse item is the first-plant layer moving from programme schedule into contract-bearing procurement: long-lead items started, conditional POs covering one of three AP1000 units. The Netherlands half is a new lane on the record — the storylines memory carries no Netherlands thread — and Hyundai E&C's attachment gives the Korean construction ecosystem an export layer adjacent to the Korea–US nuclear framework thread (six AP1000s at US federal sites), without tying the two together.

Watch: Conversion of the conditional purchase orders to firm orders, site and construction milestones against the 2036 startup line, whether the Netherlands FEED names a utility, sites, or technology beyond "two large-scale reactors," and whether Hyundai E&C's nuclear role extends toward the US federal-site AP1000 programme under the Korea–US framework.
