Newcleo inaugurates €10M (~$11M) MOX fuel development centre in southern France

2026-10-15 Energy

From the Energy digest for 2026-10-15

What happened: Newcleo, the UK-headquartered lead-cooled fast-reactor developer, inaugurated its €10 million (USD 11 million) advanced nuclear fuel engineering, testing and training centre in Chusclan, in the Gard department of southern France, per its MOX fuel development centre announcement (World Nuclear News, published Oct 15, 2026, ~7:55 AM ET). The window gives the facility's location and purpose but no customer names or output schedule.

What's genuinely new: A development of the same SMR industrial base fuel-cycle layer, which opened its facilities run with Kairos Power's pebble-inspection facility in Albuquerque (Oct 14) and carries the Centrus/Framatome fuel-contract entries — this adds the fast-reactor/MOX fuel-fabrication leg and the first Newcleo entry on the record.

Watch: facility throughput and first fuel production dates; customer or developer linkage; whether Newcleo's lead-cooled reactor programme itself surfaces on this record.
