Starlink to India: "infrastructure ready" is the row's latest word

2026-10-17 Space

From the Space digest for 2026-10-17

What happened: Starlink, days after Reliance's first official statement in the satcom row, says it has spent over five years working with Indian regulators, industry stakeholders and operators, built dedicated in-country infrastructure "with the requisite government approvals and licences," and is ready to offer high-speed internet in India — carried by The Telegraph (online) and syndicated across Daijiworld, The Hindu and MSN, articles published October 17. The window then adds a genuine turn: Musk responds "much appreciated" to Reliance's Starlink stand — a marked shift in tone after his October salvoes at Ambani — and the same MSN report introduces a new political element: Marco Rubio is set to meet Ambani (published October 17, ~4:20 AM ET).

What's genuinely new: The reply-and-meeting layer. The October 16 record already carries both sides' statements — Reliance's "competition is welcome but Indian laws apply to all" and Starlink's five-years-plus/"requisite approvals" response — plus the earlier Musk salvoes naming Mukesh Ambani. Musk's "much appreciated" reply and the Rubio–Ambani meeting are the first new facts since; the Telegraph/Daijiworld/Hindu/MMSN syndications of the Starlink statement complete the record with no new pricing, licence, or spectrum fact.

Watch: The Rubio–Ambani meeting and any satcom readout; the full Musk reply text; any licence→commercial-conversion decision; the still-unresolved spectrum-pricing decision; and whether Reliance counters a second time.
