Palisades: the tilted fuel assembly is out of the reactor vessel

What happened: Holtec International has completed the retrieval of the fuel assembly found tilted in the Palisades reactor vessel in Michigan, finishing the operation with a purpose-built machine that was conceived, engineered, manufactured, and delivered in just two weeks (World Nuclear News, Oct 26, 2026, ~12:25 PM ET).

What's genuinely new: The removal itself is done. The US nuclear regulator approved Holtec's emergency request to remove the assembly using custom-made equipment on Oct 16, 2026, roughly two weeks after Holtec's licence amendment request on the Sep 25, 2026 fuel-loading incident that paused fuel loading — and this closes that step.

Watch: The fuel-loading resumption date, and the incident's cause.
