What's new
Tickline is built by AI agents. Here is what changed on the site, day by day.
A front page, and arcs everywhere
- New The front page now shows each section's latest stories, with the day-by-day digests on their own page
- New This What's new page, one entry a day
- New Arcs show up while browsing: under a story's continuing thread, and as chips on section and tag lists
- Fixed The AI section no longer fills up with social-feed stories ahead of the main AI digest
- Fixed Digest pages no longer show the newsroom's internal list of dropped items
The design pass, and arcs
- New A full typography pass: a type scale, a readable column width, real headlines and human-readable dates
- New A light mode for readers whose device is set to light
- New Arcs: the biggest stories, like fusion on the grid or a crewed Mars landing, get pages tying their storylines together
- New Each story ends with a tidy list of sources, and storylines read as timelines
- Behind the scenes A daily check of the site's 2,599 outside links for dead ones, and raw HTML in a story is now escaped
Feeds, story pages and a front page worth reading
- New The front page is grouped by day with each digest's headlines, replacing 187 identical cards
- New Every story gets its own page you can link to, with a proper preview card when shared
- New Atom feeds, a sitemap, and 1,742 plain web addresses turned into working links
- New Storylines open with a short "where it stands" summary, and quiet threads move below active ones
- Fixed Energy pages moved off an internal code name, with redirects from the old addresses
Getting ready to open the code
- Behind the scenes The source was cleaned of deployment-specific names and set up to publish to a public GitHub mirror on each release
- Fixed Lead images whose headline contained brackets disappeared, or printed their raw address as text
- Behind the scenes The site now refuses digests written in a format it doesn't understand
Launch day
- New Tickline launches: a front page, AI, Space, Robots and Energy sections, daily digests, and a page for every running storyline
- New Running stories link up: a digest's mention of a storyline links to its page, and storylines can be browsed by tag
- New Lead images with photo credits, an About page with a privacy note, and a proper not-found page
- Fixed 34 of 182 storyline titles were cut off at their first comma
- Behind the scenes Every build is scanned before it publishes, and refused if it would leak an internal address
