What happened: Electrek reported on October 27 (about 3:55 PM ET) that Waymo is growing its driverless service area by nearly 250 square miles over the next week, spread across Los Angeles, Nashville, Orlando, San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area — cities where Waymo already runs with nobody in the driver's seat.

What's genuinely new: The expansion's size and city list — and the comparison Electrek draws: the added area is about as large as Tesla's entire Houston robotaxi geofence after this week's expansion, a scale counterweight landing the same day Musk declared Tesla's robotaxi race against Waymo won on a 438,000-mile Austin week.

Watch: Service-area growth turning into weekly mileage against Tesla's compounding Austin totals; a refreshed Austin figure to replace the four-month-old benchmark behind the victory claim; when Nashville and Orlando riders actually see driverless service.
