The NRC's own roundup calls the past year-plus "breakneck". A broad overhaul rule proposed covering reactor licensing, decommissioning and operational oversight (Sep 14); an EO 14300-related rulemaking proposed; ANS comments to OMB/NRC on the pace itself (Sep 23); and Democrats on the energy/water subcommittees formally requested information from the NRC and Chair-signal Nieh over the regulatory overhaul (Sep 28) — the first formal pushback on fast-walking. UK regulators are planning what ANS brands "radical reforms" under the "Building Our Nuclear Nation" policy (Mar 2026) and began the Xe-100 Generic Design Assessment (directed Sep 15). Italy's Senate passed the nuclear-return law 81–51 (Sep 24, Meloni's bill; enabling framework after ~40 years). The DOE's NLIC waste program: Senate EPW held a waste-policy hearing Sep 23; six finalist states have signed MOUs — Idaho, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia; West Virginia was added by surprise Sep 2 (revealed via FOIA); Deep Isolation's three-year deep-borehole disposal study published findings Sep 22 that could feed the concept. USDA opened $175M for nuclear at rural electric co-ops (Sep 18).

What's genuinely new: oversight friction (the Democrats' letter) arriving on cue as licensing accelerates — plus Tennessee as an NLIC finalist, which is TVA-beat-adjacent.
