. 2026-11-06 (~7:31 AM ET, WNN — world-nuclear-news.org/articles): Calogena, a Groupe Gorgé subsidiary, won a €40 million (about USD 44.6 million) European Commission Innovation Fund grant to support the potential construction of its first commercial CAL30 reactor at Pierrelatte in southern France — a 30-megawatt-thermal, low-temperature pool-type light-water reactor built to supply district-heating networks, sized to warm about 20,000 homes, with deployment targeted as early as 2030. The fund is financed by EU emissions-trading revenue and had not previously backed nuclear; Calogena describes the award as the first European funding to an SMR directly supporting construction of a commercial facility, on top of more than €50 million secured under France 2030. The CAL30 is one of four SMR designs under evaluation by France's nuclear safety authority, and construction authorisation has not yet been applied for.
