FCC robotics import ban & the onshoring scramble

Open · 9 updates · since · updated Robots fcc regulation china humanoids

Where it stands: The FCC's 2026 ban on new foreign-made advanced robots, widely seen as aimed at China, is now testing US onshoring: makers warn of actuator and rare-earth gaps that could triple costs. Intel said the ban could disrupt its chip factories because its material-moving AGVs had no domestic alternative, then became the first named company to receive a waiver. An IDC analysis says the ban has already cut US humanoid robot revenue 58%, projects it will remain 58% below baseline by 2030, and notes about 95% of humanoid robots come from China. Chinese robot exports are being redirected to Europe.
