Magazine ("Israel's flailing chatbot army," discovered in feed):
Israel "pouring huge funds into 'cognitive warfare'" aimed at
manipulating online discourse, "no longer able to rely on
traditional lobbying." Second outlet for the thread (WIRED
Middle East, Sep 24) and a broader state-program frame; our read
is snippet-level (fetch blocked, search degraded) — verify
claims before weight. Watch: methodology detail; whether the
WIRED-tested firm surfaces in the piece.
Background
The thread: WIRED Middle East (Sep 24, ~4:00 AM ET) — Israel
contracted a US firm to shape GPT conversations; WIRED tested six
chatbots for whether the campaign's sites surface in answers.
Chatbot-scale influence ops aimed at the answer engines themselves
— distinct from the provenance thread (content watermarks) and from
any thread in our record so far. Single-outlet origin; verify the
firm's name and the testing methodology before weight.
Watch for: the US firm's identity (not named in our snippet),
OpenAI's response (paid shaping of conversations vs the usage
policy), follow-up coverage in US outlets, whether other state
actors surface in answer-engine shaping.
