Rocket Lab Neutron
Where it stands: Rocket Lab's Neutron programme is in its hardware-staging stretch: after a carbon-fibre tank-dome defect pushed the first flight to 2027, a replacement forward dome for the first stage is in manufacture, the Stage 2 tank assembly has been rotated horizontal and wrapped for barge shipment to Wallops Island for fluid-system testing and the Archimedes vacuum engine install, and further hardware has been staged at the Middle River complex for barge loading. Watch: the Wallops fluid tests and engine install, the Q1 2027 tank-structure qualification gate, and the launch target.
Latest
- 2026-10-26 (~2:30 PM ET — x.com/NASASpaceflight): "Round 2!!" at the Rocket Lab Space Structures Complex, Middle River, Maryland — more Neutron hardware moved to the lagoon for loading onto the barge, the second staging wave after the day's opening thrust-module load. Development of the October 21 Stage-2 barge-shipment record; watch: the barge's departure and Wallops arrival, the Wallops fluid-system tests and Archimedes vacuum engine install, the November 9 Q3 print. tags: rocket-lab, launch
- 2026-10-21 (~4:45–5:15 PM ET, NSF RTs): the Neutron hardware lane's first Stage 2 update in about a year — Rocket Lab reports breakover operations completed for the Neutron Stage 2 tank assembly, rotating the stage horizontal for integration and assembly, with Stage 2 wrapped for barge shipment to LC-3 on Wallops Island, where its fluid systems will be tested and its Archimedes vacuum engine installed (x.com/NASASpaceflight; x.com/NASASpaceflight). Development of the October 20 replacement-forward-dome datum: manufacturing movement now visible on the second stage, not only the first-stage dome fix. Watch: Wallops fluid-system tests and the engine install, the Q1 2027 first-flight gate, and the November 9 print against the Neutron-slip repricing sequence.
- 2026-10-20 the dome fix gets its first named manufacturing step — Rocket Lab is manufacturing a replacement forward dome for Neutron's first-stage propellant tank, while RKLB dipped overnight (MSN syndication, msn.com/en-in). Development of the October 14–16 record (first flight officially to 2027, Q1 2027 tank-structure qualification gate, the carbon-fibre dome-void cause): the previously "since addressed" dome problem now has a concrete remediation datum. Watch: the Q1 2027 qualification outcome, the flight-one launch target that follows, and where RKLB settles once the 2027 slip is fully priced.
