OpenClaw
Where it stands: OpenClaw is an open-source agent harness that now underpins other companies' agents: Microsoft's Autopilot (formerly Scout) is described as managed OpenClaw, and Meta's Muse derives from it. It ships releases every few days, most recently v2026.10.7, and in late September the OpenClaw Foundation open-sourced an enterprise control plane built in collaboration with Red Hat, Nvidia and OpenAI, free to any organization. Watch whether that control plane collides with OpenAI's own agent-platform ambitions.

With today's super-app GA rebranding Scout → Autopilot, the record now reads: OpenClaw has been Microsoft's consumer/enterprise agent substrate for ~16 weeks, plus Meta's Muse is OpenClaw-derived in product lineage (Friedman, Sep 22). The open harness is the incumbents' base layer — a June fact we under-weighted until the rebrand made it visible.
