Where it stands: Perplexity is pitching its search index and Agent API as the retrieval layer other companies' AI agents run on. It has open-sourced SPACE, the sandbox that gives each agent task its own isolated microVM, and named Crusoe as the first cloud partner to offer it, while its Computer agent can now run fully locally on a Mac with the model and agent on-device. Watch whether the promised account of the SPACE red-team exercise appears and whether local mode still depends on Perplexity's search backend.
