What happened: The Verge reports (Oct 27, ~9:50 AM ET) that Apple is adding an AI assistant to its productivity apps — Keynote, Pages and Numbers — built on AI models from Apple and OpenAI. The assistant works from a document's context: in Keynote it can design, animate and refine slides; in Pages it can draft, restructure and tweak written content; and in Numbers it can calculate, visualize and organize data, suggesting chart types and building custom tables.

What's genuinely new: a chat assistant embedded in Apple's document, presentation and spreadsheet apps for the first time, with OpenAI's models named as part of the stack alongside Apple's own.

Watch: rollout timing and which surfaces get it first, Apple's own framing of the feature once it announces it directly, and how it stacks up against Microsoft 365 Copilot, which already carries both OpenAI and Grok models in Word and Excel.
