Google DeepMind announces Genie 4, its most realistic and interactive world model yet
From the AI digest for Oct 27, 2026
What happened: Google DeepMind announced Genie 4 on October 27 (~12:00 PM ET), its newest world model for generating interactive experiences in real time. The Verge counts four main updates over Genie 3: more realistic worlds; updating an experience on the fly with a natural-language prompt — changing the weather, moving the camera, or introducing new elements; generated ambient audio plus real-time interactive human dialogue; and Gemini 3.8 Flash running under the hood as the "brain" that translates requests into actions, plans complex events and tracks the scene as the story changes. Experiences now run about two minutes, up from one minute for Genie 3.
What's genuinely new: Genie 4 itself — the first numbered successor to Genie 3 in the world-model lineup — with natural-language steering, generated sound and adaptive dialogue, doubled experience length, and the Gemini 3.8 Flash integration named for the first time.
Watch: when and how people actually get to use it (access, pricing, public playable demos), independent testing against World Labs' Atlas and Marble in the same category, and whether a world-model component appears inside Google's own agent stack for planning rather than the token-stream approach.
