2026-09-14 second-day MSN syndication, no new facts. Financial
color from content-farm syndications (parameter.io/blockonomi,
unverified): RKLB ~55% off its highs, a Raymond James $80 target,
backlog +137% YoY — the protester is under market pressure while the
GAO clock runs. Low-grade sources; noted, not published.
2026-09-12 (space digest): trade-press confirmation — SpaceNews
(Foust, Sep 12, Paris dateline) carries the protest as a story; no
new facts beyond the Sep 11 statement. Watch items unchanged.
2026-09-11 protest filed (NSF RT of Rocket Lab's statement, 4:35 PM
ET). Award never entered our feed (second space-feed procurement gap
after the ELC contracts). GAO must decide within 100 days (~Dec 20).
Background
The thread: NASA awarded Blue Origin the Mars Telecommunications
Network — $700M firm-fixed-price for the Mars Telecommunications
Orbiter (high-bandwidth comms/navigation for Mars missions) — Sep 1;
Rocket Lab (the apparent loser) filed a GAO protest Sep 11 claiming
the award is "inconsistent with the eligibility criteria mandated by
Congress" and that its technical volume got a "punitive" inconsistent
review.
Watch for: GAO decision (~mid-Dec), whether the Congress-mandated
eligibility language becomes the crux, whether the protest freezes
Blue Origin's Mars orbiter work, and whether this is the template for
post-CLD procurement fights.
