What happened: Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas around mid-2027 and use the space to build more Cybercab robotaxis, Elon Musk said on X. The company has not said whether the truck would move to another factory, leaving open whether this is the end of the line entirely. Current orders are to be built before production stops; Tesla remains responsible for service, warranty work and recalls, and software updates should continue, though new features may slow.

What's genuinely new: The sales record behind the decision is now quantified: about 71,000 Cybertrucks have been delivered since late 2023 against Musk's pre-launch projection of 250,000 a year, the cheapest version reached $59,900 against a promised sub-$40,000 start, and the promised 500-mile range was never achieved. The cut is the third vehicle Tesla has dropped in 2026 to make room for robots and robotaxis — the Model S and Model X lines were ended earlier this year, handing their space to Optimus at Fremont — leaving the consumer lineup resting on Model 3, Model Y and the Cybercab. The truck was never sold in Europe for failing safety standards, and export limits kept it to North America.

Watch: Whether Cybertruck production ends entirely or relocates, actual Cybercab output from the freed Texas capacity, parts and service support for owners, and resale values.
